Buying A Heated Dog Bed

When Buying a Heated Dog Bed What Should You Look For?

Heated dog beds are particularly important during winter season. They help your dogs to feel cozy and warm.

However, not all brands of heated dog beds are effective enough for your dogs. If your dog is already old or has arthritis or still recuperating from a surgery, a right heated dog bed should be given to them.

There are different kinds of heated dog beds available in the market today. These are orthopaedic heated beds, pillow-style beds, igloo style half-rounded heated pads, oval beds and heated kennel mats.

Aside from these heated dog beds, another option to warm the dog is to put a thermo-wave microwavable dog warmer. You need to heat the warmer in the microwave and then put it to the dog’s bed.

When warmed, the dog bed becomes pliable and soft. Do not attempt to use a human heating pad to your dog. This may cause an injury to your dog considering that the heating pads for humans are far heater than your dog’s temperature.

Before buying a particular heated dog bed, you should consider the following factors:
  • Look for heated dog beds which are CUL and UL certified to insure safety and protection. They usually have steel wrapped cords. The cords are good for dogs which are fond of chewing.
  • Choose those dog beds which have a full-ranged variable heat control. You can easily and quickly switch the control from off to the hottest temperature.
  • Make sure to read the labels of the products. Some heated dog beds are designed for outdoor use while some others are designed for indoor use.
  • Choose a dog bed with a removable heater so that you can wash the bed from time to time.
  • Choose a heated dog bed with a heater which can keep the temperature of the bed from about 12 to 15 degrees, a temperature which is above the air temperature.

Your favorite dog deserves a heated dog bed which best fits to their needs so that they can withstand the coldness of the winter.
